Last Days Apostasy - The Emergent Church
The Bible warns us that in the latter days deception would become rampant and that many would fall away from the true Christian faith.
"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons." ~ 1 Timothy 4:1
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths." ~ 2 Timothy 4:3-4
"Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord." ~ Jude 1:3-4
God holds us responsible for a right understanding of Scripture and we are liable before God for what we do with a true and right understanding of Scripture. An apostate is one who has received the truth, rejected the truth, and then ridicules and seeks to replace the truth.
Many people today don't want the law of God, they want their own. One manifestation of this is known as the emerging, or emergent church. The emerging / emergent church is a liberal, progressive movement that takes its name from the idea that as culture changes, a new church should emerge in response. It wants to let the culture define what Christianity should be. It is an inclusive approach to various, sometimes contradictory belief systems. The emergent church is trying to get people into the pews so they have lowered the bar to be like the world so the world will want to come in, but that's not what the world needs.
The emergent church movement can be thought of as a dissolution of "cold, hard fact" in favor of "warm, fuzzy subjectivity". The emergent church movement falls into line with basic post-modernist thinking, it is about experience over reason, subjectivity over objectivity, spirituality over religion, images over words, outward over inward, feelings over truth. This embrace of post-modernist thinking eventually leads to a very liberal, loose translation of the Bible. This, in turn, lends to liberal doctrine and theology. For example, because experience is valued more highly than reason, truth becomes relative. Relativism opens up all kinds of problems, as it destroys the standard that the Bible contains absolute truth, negating the belief that biblical truth can be absolute. If the Bible is not our source for absolute truth, and personal experience is allowed to define and interpret what truth actually is, a saving faith in Jesus Christ is rendered meaningless. If everybody is entitled to their own truth, it gives people a license to invent their own religion and then no one is permitted to challenge it.
The emergent church is rapidly growing in popularity because there is a market for the product. People love it because this takes all the rules out and allows you to live any way you want to live and still call yourself a Christian. Ambiguity is wonderful if you want to sin without any guilt and to feel good about it. But their philosophies operate outside the realm of Scripture. They have nothing to do with the Bible. They are all human philosophies.
The emergent church sanctifies the post-modern culture as if it is legitimate and says if we're going to reach these people, we've got to become like these people. That's never been the biblical way...never. The Bible does not change. It's not a chameleon, it doesn't shift and change and adapt to culture. Churches today are more concerned with looking cool and trendy than preaching the truth. Stadiums are being filled as churches and they don't preach one word of Scripture. It's all about feeling good, doing good, motivational speaking and putting on a show.
Many emergent churches will not take a stand on topics such as homosexuality and abortion out of inclusiveness and not wanting to alienate anyone. Some teach falsely that there is no condemnation in the Bible for these practices. The Bible is not vague or obscure or oblique about homosexuality. It couldn't be more clear. A homosexual will not inherit the Kingdom of God...that's pretty clear. Homosexuality in Romans chapter 1 is a perversion that is manifestly when it happens in a culture, begins to dominate a culture, an evidence of divine wrath and divine judgment. So the Bible is clear, but they don't want that clarity, they want to run from the light. Scripture is light, it is not darkness, but they like the darkness. "This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil." ~ John 3:19, those words came right out of the mouth of Jesus.
All Christian evangelical churches should welcome sinners to sit under the preaching of the gospel, but when someone takes membership into a church, they become part of that fellowship of believers, and Christ has clearly said in Scripture that believers first repent and turn away from their sin. Welcoming sinners to hear the gospel is in line with the teaching of Jesus, but abandoning repentance and welcoming unrepentant sinners as members of the church is very different and not in line with Scripture.
Many people today argue that because Jesus spent time with sinners, he was condoning their behavior. In Luke chapter 5, when Jesus is asked "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?", his reply was, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." ~ Luke 5:30-32
Notice that Jesus said he came to call sinners to repentance, not to tell them that their sins didn't matter and that they could continue to live their lives any way they please. Repentance and turning away from sin is the part that the emergent church doesn't like, so they simply ignore that part of the gospel. Churches today are accepting and encouraging homosexuals to continue in their lifestyles, ordaining practicing homosexuals as clergy, embracing and even performing same-sex "marriages", and accepting abortion as a "morally" acceptable "choice". People want to call themselves "Christian", they want to be saved, but they love their sin too much to give it up. They are looking for a church that offers salvation without rules and the emergent church is happy to accommodate them.
It is apparent that the emergent church movement as a whole is off-center and is sacrificing time-honored Biblical truths for a let's-get-along kind of attitude. They do not acknowledge the fact that each one of us will one day stand before God and be judged in accordance with Biblical truth. The true Bible, not the one they made up. The Christian Bible is the infallible inspired word of God and the Christian church is not a social club where you get to change doctrines you don't like and make up your own. Once you pervert your thinking, you get another basis of doctrinal authority. You are lawless, you have rejected the law of God and you are following in the spirit of anti-Christ.
This apostasy and perversion is not just limited to new emerging churches, but is infesting denominations that where once solid. The Lutheran church is already ordaining homosexual clergy and embracing same-sex marriage, and the Methodist church is leaning in that direction.
The United Methodist Church's Book of Discipline prohibits ordination of "self-avowed practicing homosexuals," but clergy, members and churches who are part of a Reconciling Ministries Network want to change that. The Methodist Church has placed a five year moratorium on debating same sex marriage and homosexual ordination and then they will decide, the church will decide. What authority does the church have do decide what God has already decided?
This is the problem that arises when churches create their own book of "rules" outside of the Bible. The Methodist's Book of Discipline is written by men so it can be changed by men. The Bible is written by God, it does not change. The Bible is the only authority and with it you don't need a "Book of Discipline". The Bible forbids homosexuality. That's it. Period. There is nothing to discuss.
These people deny the clear teaching of Scripture. And I'm convinced that the reason they deny it is not because it can't be understood, not because it's unclear, but because they don't like what it clearly says. And that takes us back to John 3, "Men love darkness rather than light." The light is there, they hate the light, they run from the light. The issue is not that Scripture is not clear, it is crystal clear.
Scripture also makes it clear that for those who do not receive the love of the truth and prefer to believe lies, God will give them over to it in judgment;
"Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness." ~ 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12
"Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them." ~ Romans 1:24-32
So, in their "hearty approval" of homosexuality, they encourage others to accept their practice and so their sin spreads. This means they will reject the ways of God and stand in opposition to Christ's redemptive work on the cross. Without Jesus, they will have no forgiveness. Without forgiveness, they will have no salvation. Without salvation, there is only damnation in eternal hell.
Once you stop discerning you set yourself up for a moral landslide.into open perversion, blasphemy and idolatry. That is how the apostasy of the last days works.
Just as the Holy Spirit draws people to Christ, the spirit of anti-Christ draws people to the anti-Christ. As the Holy Spirit is preparing the faithful church for the return of Christ, the spirit of anti-Christ is preparing the apostate church for the dawn of the anti-Christ. The anti-Christ and False Prophet will be a judgment on a reprobate world and an apostate church.

God's Plan of Salvation
To those of us who are watching, world events are falling into alignment with Biblical end times prophecy like never before in history, and the pace is accelerating.
In His love and mercy, God has provided a way by which you can escape the judgment He is about to bring upon the world, if you choose too...
The Bible says that many false teachers will arise in the last days and that many people will be led astray. The best way to guard yourself is to know the Scriptures well enough yourself to be able to recognize false teaching when you see it.
Concerning the teaching on this or any other website, I encourage you to search the scriptures for yourself and not just take my word for it. This will help better prepare you to navigate the flood of false teaching that Satan is unleashing upon the world and that will only get worse as we get closer to the end.
